I saw Andrei Herasimchuk @ Design by Fire throw a FlameFest Software Giveaway contest. I was jonesing for some old Adobe Software. Threw this together. Here's a link to the full sized image. Then I go back to his site and see that the contest is already over. Well, enjoy it Andrei... Blogmoving and deadlines and projects.. what's another too-late thing to add to the mix?
Extra, on the right. This is something simple (for grins), a refreshing change after that collage with layers and layers of imagery: Analog. Direct
Hi there,
I just saw your post over at Design by Fire under the "Low priced Andrei" section. I was actually one of the winners for the contest, and after I saw your, unrortunately late entry, I must say, it really takes the cake. That is some serious creativity that would have had you winning hands down no doubt. This is also my first visit to your site and I'm enjoying myself already.
Cheers!

thanks for stopping by and commenting, David! you're actually the first (other than me) to leave a comment in these parts. I'm in blog transition. In fact, I'm still putting the old domain name addy here. I'm so discombobulated.
But, uh, back on topic. Thanks for commenting and your words about my flamepiece. (Funny, by the time I finished with it, I thought, Feh. The busy one, that is. I like the ribbon and gluestick)
The story behind the software: Specular Collage is, I believe, the first product that Andrei designed. back when (93?) he demoed it to me at Macworld Boston. I think. I may be wrong. Anyway, I showed his software-- well, that and InfiniD. So it's Old Home Week around here. Damn, I really wanted that copy of FrameMaker. ;)

Specular Collage was indeed the first program I designed on my own. (Although Dennis Chen and Lincoln Lydick, both incredibly smart engineers, coded it). It was also product idea that I thought up on my own and got me noticed at Adobe. Collage did layering and compositing before Photoshop did. I was all of the tender age of 22.
Those were the days! Wow.
While Susan was late for the entry, another person gave up their spot, and while FrameMaker is already taken, I'm giving Susan a copy of After Effects, her second choice. Hope that makes up for it!

Dennis Chen and Lincoln Lydick! cool! I worked with them briefly in earlier stages of design for what was to become Carrara (that was at MetaCreations). And hey, I like animation. guess I'll have to do some more of that with AE. :) Thanks, Andrei!
