The legacy of changing voter registration to Rep to vote for McCain in March 2000... is that I am still a republican. (and unlike Y2K, I can't cross over in the primaries).
So, I'm looking into the US Senate candidates. These are taken from web sites of candidates. (In case you were wondering, they're on my reject list)
Barry Hatch is running against all illegals. (not the other candidates, his platform). Here's what he says. Vote the Banshees out:
California Officials say immigration is not important. The birthrate of American Hispanics is so huge it will cover the nation. Are you going to allow these ungrateful banshees to wallow in their repugnant plans for our Nation?
So, I wonder what he thinks of our current Governor. Is The Gov also an ungrateful banshee, too? Or is Arnold okay because he's white?
Strange, after that, to make a fashion statement befitting of California in the summertime: Protect the Right to Bare Arms (scroll down to bottom)
John M. VanZandt's bio states that he was president of Maybelline, and, later, CEO of Avanza. On the CalVoter political philosophy page, tho, he says,
by proper management, we can provide health insurance for everyone through Medicare with very little. almost painless taxes. the overhead in medicare is 1.5% and in private HMOS, almost 14-15%. with set contolled pricing, doctors may lose money on each visit but they will have 2-3 times more visit s and make more overall money than at present in private plans.
Do the math: lose money on each visit, have more visits; lose lots and lots more money. And this guy is a CEO?!

The candidate in question is against "illegal" immigration, not legal immigration. The present Governor was a legal alien before he became a naturalized citizen.
Surely Susan, you knew the difference. Why did you use the "race baiting" approach? That argument is so old, it's worthless in the 21st Century.
I'm against illegal immigration and feel our borders should be sealed to prevent that violation, regardless of the prior history of controlling our borders.
I have no problem with legal immigration.

Check it out again. The birthrate of American Hispanics, he says. Legal American Hispanics? Illegal American Hispanics? It's not clear to me what he means, but the context of the page in question makes it sound like he doesn't want any of them. Is that naturalized citizen banshees who still have immigrant roots or otherwise?
Race baiting, indeed.

Okay, now that I have a few more minutes (had to make some final voting decisions and vote), I'll expand a bit on the previous.
First off, I didn't expect this candidate web surf to be so hilarious.
Second, I was really touched by Gov. Schwarzenegger's statement at his inauguration about his gratitude for the opportunities that he's had since being in America, California, and being an American. Truly touching.
(Also, in my candidatesurf, there was a latina candidate Rosario Marn for Senate who expressed similar gratitude -- and gravitas?-- at the opportunties given her as an immigrant.)
Contrast that with Barry "Banshee" Hatch's statements on illegal immigration. Like I said above, he does not make clear where his ire at "Illegal" ends and where "American Hispanics" begins. Does he group Marn with those American Hispanics?
And with such ambiguities like that, I don't think it's race baiting to wonder if his ambiguous positions are any different depending upon the ethnicity of the immigrant.
Here endeth the discussion. Thanks be to God. :)

Maybe he just doesn't like illegal immigration regardless of color. If he doesn't state color as a reason in his statements, why are you introducing it? That's the point.
If the person is against all Hispanics, then I'd say that it is a racist statement. The same applies to a Hispanic that doesn't like whites, or blacks, or asians, etc. Any person regardless of their race that speaks against the entire race of another is a racist.
If you want to see a clear case of racism, read the reports of the black congresswoman who recently stated on the record that all the Bush Administration people looked alike. She should resign or be forced to resign as any other person who makes racists statements should. Too many people let false comments like that stand when a person of a color other than white states it.
You could have picked that story about racism in American politics if you wanted to make a clear case of one race blasting another.

Susan,
Tonight I read the article http://www.barryhatch4ussenate.com/7801.html again. The second sentence indicates "Illegal aliens". Of the first five paragraphs, four of them refer to illegal aliens.
What he's saying is pretty clear to me and not racist at all.
He even references the media further down in the article about when he says the media has noted the changing demographics in America. Do you think the prediction of population trends is racist?
It's not a racist statement to say a group's population may overtake another. That may be a statistical projection and nothing more. What's racist about that?
We, as Americans and as a nation have every right to protect our borders from illegal immigration. It's not racist to deny access to illegal aliens.
I think the guy has a valid point on that issue.
I think you made a huge stretch and leapt to a conclusion that what the guy was saying is racist.
The link http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,112651,00.html speaks to the outrageous racist comments made recently. It's hard to find credibility amongst the usual groups that lash out against other "so called" racist remarks, but in this case, allow a bigot congresswoman to get away with her racist comments without a word of protest.
If you want to "race-bait" your weblog with unsupported evidence that is your right.
On the other hand, if you're a person who resents racist comments then perhaps you'll cover the situations that include blatant examples like the one I've cited above. Otherwise it's hard for me to understand the logic of your argument or the reasons for targeting one's comments and not another's.

All illegal hispanics should go back where they came from. They can't rule this country. It's a white country, and they can't take over. So why don't we deport them back .
