They never did know how to do Mac development right anyway.

The whole horror of this situation is that Bryce was first developed on the Mac. It didn't make it to the PC until version 2.

As to Corel's Mac Development, well, the app came to them with the MetaCreations code base of Axiom (the cross-platform user interface). You write a single code base. Two compiles, and there you are: cross-platform application. Corel only had its hands on a minor rev of version 4 and then version 5. The original Bryce engineers also worked under contract on Bryce 5 development.

So the "they never knew how to do that" doesn't apply in this case, unless it was a way to describe whatever bias led to their not offering Bryce on the Mac anymore.

Donald W. Larson

It certainly does apply.

Any software company that purchases code is responsible for it. When I asked them several times about when the Velocity Engine would be supported, they balked about it. When I asked them when they would fix the old bugs instead of developing new features, they balked.

Any software company that doesn't know it's Mac users are expecting great software is out of touch with reality. I'm not talking development perfection here, just the realization that Mac users aren't as gullible as Windows users are when it comes to software performance and expectations.

I think tat Bryce was a great piece of software until Corel got a hold of it. They are the morticians of Mac software in my opinion.

I'm sorry this came to pass. I know how important that software is to you and I recognize your superior efforts to help the Bryce community over the years.

This will have a backlash I think on sales. I use both s pc and a mac, the mac does MOST of the work in Bryce and it is my render box for the final image.

I do not want to use my pc for the final work, this is the machine I building models on and use for the 'net.

I will not be upgrading to B6 when and IF, thats a big if, the next version comes out. From the online forums, people are really ugly about this, even pc only people feel bad for the Mac users who will be left behind.

Hopefully, we Bryce users will be heard ....

Eek! I came here to read your response to this article, and it looks like instead I get to be the one to break the bad news.

Sorry... don't shoot the messenger, please?

Don Wallace Jr.

Dori,

LOL, no shooting :)

Except maybe Corel shooting themselves in the foot :

Susan Kitchens

Dori,

Never, ever, would I shoot the messenger. The original post was pretty much writing on the wall that your linked-to article confirmed. And Corel had I've had these bits of sadnesses over time regarding Bryce. I think I've been watching (and grieving) its slow demise for a few years now.

As for running in OS X, Bryce 5 runs natively in OS X, smooth as glass :] No OS 9.X loaded on my Mac 8o)

Random Thought:

Possibly, this is a Karmic-slap for Apple dumping PC users of Logic Audio when they purchased Emagic... (grim smile)

Admittedly, the Logic Audio thing didn't matter to me too much... (double-standard-bearers unite!)

And to think I just gave Corel $$ to upgrade to Mac Painter 8!

Fortunately, Bryce 5 works in OSX and is still deep and useful, at least for me.
