193 years ago today, Abraham Lincoln was born.
It's Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday. The last day before Lent begins. Chuck Taggart of Looka has some mouth-watering descriptions of traditional Nawlins' eating and traditions for Mardi Gras.
And.... I overlooked this one, but no more. It's Chinese New Year, too.
Back from Las Vegas for a big family do—niece's baptism and birthday party celebration. Hal and Audrey and Ian came, too, and got to meet many in the clan!
Sunday was a full day, beginning with church and baptism, followed by a party, followed by a scrumptious many-course dinner and culminating in seeing Cirque du Soleil's O. Oh! Eau. Oh. my. god. I need to find a new vocabulary of superlatives, all my current adjectives are flabby, tired and have ring around the collar.
"O" is one of those life-transforming events. i've got the album and the book (book's so-so).
on any return to las vegas, it's on the top of the list.
no competition.

wow. life-transforming? Now *that*'s saying something! I feel like asking you how or in what way you feel transformed, but since all vocabulary used in this kinda discussion seems ineffectual, I'll only make a half-hearted attempt (feel free to jump in if you wanna)
re: souvenirs: I got the album; my friend got the book. I've not yet listened the whole way through the album. But I've got other Cirque music and love it.
possible adjectives describing the show: Continuously unfolding mind-boggle. Jaw-dropping.
Have you seen any other Cirque du Soleil shows? I've seen two or three of them starting ~11 years ago or so. They all have that jaw-drop-mind-boggle to them.
I have the mystere album, haven't seen the show, though. Want to. Really want to. Happy for me that family's in town, and, if I miss LA - Vegas traffic, it's a 4 hour drive.

It was also the beginning of the Chinese New Year. I understand we have begun the Year of the Horse.

life-transforming in that cirque seems to capture the 'asymmetric' quality of life. things are happening all the time, events wait for noone. you pick and choose where and when you involve yourself ... yet you always feel you've missed something.
that 'partial torso' hanging in the beginning was just a starkly beautiful image to me ... lit exquisitely. i left the show with my mind seething ... looking for meanings, mythology.
the show hits different people in different ways; sharing the experience and discussing it afterwards is almost as mind-blowing as the event itself.
i had friends recommend cirque, but i'd never seen them live. "O" was my first. i can't imagine anything better.
