Institutionalized violence?

Beyond developing a couple weapons used to force Japan to surrender to the Americans in 1945, I don't see how the Los Alamos National Laboratory represents institutionalized violence. Where have these other weapons been used to cause violence?

I think America's stockpile of offensive and defensive weapons help protect our freedom from being taken away by other countries that have such technology at their disposal.

I site the use of atomic weapons on Japan in August 1945 as the surest way to turn a horrific enemy into the most docile of countries. It's better than wasting American lives on a far away battlefield during such conflicts.

On the other hand, I am against the use of American forces as the NATO police force of the world . Apparantly the lessons of Korea and Vietnam have not been learned by we Americans yet. Unless we are directly threatened here in our own country, I think we should mind our own business and let the chips fall where they may. As President Teddy Roosevelt said, "Speak softly and carry a big stick."

I believe the vast majority of our population feels much as I do although they usually won't speak out about it hence they have no need to protest or vocally affirm the status quo.
